About Me

My photo
I would classify myself as an artist. It took me a while to finally accept that monicker, but that's what I am; AN ARTIST!!! I have a wonderful hubs that supports my "talents" in most all avenues, except maybe when the credit card bill comes in the mail...LOL And I have 4 great kids and 5 beautiful grandchildren that I love to pieces. Travel...!?!?!?!?!?!?

I seem to be stuck in a travel theme as far as my cards go. Maybe because I will be going on a short road trip of sorts.....going to a scrapbooking retreat the first weekend in February. Some of my scrapbooking buddies are going to a cabin (owned by one of the scrappers in-laws) in the Blue Ridge mountains. We are all so excited....we'll be in the cabin for the weekend, sitting around in our jammies, eating, drinking and scrapbooking and not necessarily in that order....Bwahahahahahaha!!!!! Sort of a jammie party....... LOL. No kids, no hubbies....wow ain't no tellin' what kind of trouble we'll get into. What happens at scrapbooking....stays at scrapbooking.......BWahahahaahahahahaha!!!
The card image is from Hanna Stamps....and from the looks of an email I received, Hanna is closing her doors. All her stamps are on sale right now. So, if ya want some you better get them now. The saying was made using one of the original Dymo labelers..... you know the one that you turn the wheel to the letter you want and then you squeeze the handle. Yes, I still have one.

Wish you were here.....

I made this card for my sweetie.....he's away more than he's here!!! He's currently finishing up his bachelor's degree so he can get a job closer to where we live. All the jobs he has applied for require a bachelor's .......well he said "if that's what I need to do then so be it". He's always showing me his grades, of course they are all 100's... I'm so very proud of him. He works a full time job and does his college work at nights and on weekends. He won't be changing careers, just an upgrade of sorts......Bwahahahahahaha!!!
I got this MS border punch on clearance and I love the city scape.......... very simple card for a not so simple man..... Love ya Honey!!!!!!

Wassup dawgzzzzzzzzz....??

Here is what I have been busy doing the last few dayzzz...... I was hired to do several murals at our local animal shelter. It's a new facility and they wanted it to be more consumer friendly. They have several "bonding" rooms where you can sit with you chosen adoptee and see if you can handle the animal and he/she will fit into your family. These were painted in one of the rooms. They are painted life-size and this is a very small room (8' x 8'). These were a little difficult to accomplish with it being cinder blocks, but I found my groove and it went rather quickly (approx. 5 hrs. work). Tomorrow I start on cats in the other bonding room. Enjoy!!!!

I {heart} everyone!!!

Picture isnt great, I took it from my desk instead of setting up my photo light box on the counter. I was too lazy this a.m. My new project kicked my butt last night and I'm still tired this morning. Wow......gettin' old is for the dogs.....bwahahahahahaha. Speaking of dogs, my new project involves MANY animals. I currently painting animals for our county animal shelter. Its a new facility and they wanted it to be cheery and pleasant. Of course, it painted cinder blocks and I told the director it looked like jail cells. But in a sense I guess it is cells for the animals. I started in the Bonding Room and its a very tiny room that people get to 'bond' with an animal to see if they want to take it home before adoption. I'll take pics today and show them on tomorrows blog.
The card was a simple and easy one to put together; I was too tired from sitting on a concrete floor all day yesterday. Today I'm bringing a pillow....bwahahahahahahaha!!!

Kindred spirits....

We are all kindred spirits in one way, shape or form. You can connect with so many people on so many different levels. i've connected with a whole bunch of spirits via the big WWW. It's a amazing. We are enablers for each other.....bwahahahahahahahahaha!!! Especially when it comes to buying our crafting schtuff!!!
Ok, now to the card.....another great embossing folder. It's called bird call from cuttlebug. I used my word window punch is from SU! to make the cattails. The wide oval and the phot corner punches from SU! were used also. The wording is from another clear set.
Enjoy and enable away my kindred spirits!!!!!

Destination.....schmestination.....

It's all about the JOURNEY!!!! Doesn't matter where you end up...it's all about how you get there. In my life I have (well, my own personal opinion) always tried to do the right thing. So far...so good!!!! I'm a true believer in what you put out into the world you will get back 3-fold. Hopefully I will continue to be the best that I can possibly be and just hope that some of it rubs off on others, bwahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Ok, now to the real reason you are here....the card!!! I'll come off my soap-box for a minute and tell you a little about it. Every self respecting man that has a tool box on the back of his pick-up knows that diamond plate is the "schnizel"........ bwahahahahahahaha and the shinier the better. The shiny 'paper' is actually from some packaging I just couldn't throw away. It wasn't any heavier than regular cardstock and I knew I would find a use for it. After embossing it I had to rivet (brads) it to the cardstock. The embossing folder is actually diamond plate from Cuttlebug. The 'off -road' vehicle image is from SU! and the wording is from a clear stamp set. It turned out pretty cute and any manly man would love to get this card.

I'm in the 'swim' again!!!

It was hard getting back to blogging, but I"M BACK!!!! Just 'swimming' right along and going with the 'flow'....bwahahahahahahaha!!! A while back I was 'up to my neck' and it felt like one more pitcher of 'water' thrown into the 'ocean' couldn't make anymore difference at all.
I recently started purchasing the embossing folders; and yep...I LOVE them!!! I'm an old schooler, I still have the original red sizzix. I refuse to buy a different one when this one works just fine and does everything that I need it to do...... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" So, I have found that the cuttlebug embossing folders work famously with the 'old school' sizzix. I thought that the circles kinda reminded me of bubbles for the mermaid. I used stick-on pearls for her hair. Turned out better than I planned!!!

Friends and family .....

what more could you ask for!!!

I went to a book signing of my friend, Linda George; yesterday. It was at a local gym and that place was packed. They had all kinds of demos going on and freebies and food, It was amazing. Below is a pic of Linda signing my copy.... she is the cutest thing, she's all of about 5 feet nothin'(bwahahahahahahaha) and as sweet as she can be. I love her dearly!!! I started reading her book last night....it's about her and how she became an In-home care 'nurse'. She really doesn't like the word nurse, but that really is what she is. It also contains stories about some of her patients and how they've touched her life. She works with the mentally challenged, handicapped and other special needs people. SHE ROCKS!!!After the book signing I went to my sister's house and we all went out to dinner and when we get together its a laugh riot. We pick on each other and tell stories and just have the best time. I was gone all day, I didn't get home till 1 a.m. this morning. I'm sitting here typing this, drinking my coffee and yawning, bwahahahahahahahaha.

I'm going into my studio today and knock somethings out and I'll be back tomorrow with a little sumpin' sumpin'!!!

Turn a new page....

I'm currently writing a book about my Mama. She was quite the character, thats one of the reasons formy long absense. It's exhausting....when I get thru a story I'm either crying my eyes out or I'm laughing so hard I got the pee giggles......Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!! One day it will be completed. I hope to get it published one day.
This brings me to my card or today: I have a friend that actually had a book published and she is having a booksigning today and I'm going to give her my support. Her book is titled "Those Special People". You can get it online at most of the book store websites. I haven't read the book yet, but she tells me its stories of 'special' people that she has worked for and cared for. She is an in-home care nurse and she has a lot of patients that have mental disabilities. She's a very 'special' person herself. So I made this card for her. The image I found online and colored it using my colored pencils and OMS. The wording is from a clear stamp set. I think its very appropriate for the occasion. The books almost look like they are floating..... I think these books have a little magic in them.

So to all those budding writers/authors, keep on pecking at those keys...because you could be the next big seller. Keeping my fingers crossed for my book.

Three for the price of one admission!!!

Like i promised I yesterday. I would be back today with 2 projects....well y'all are so sweet I decided to give you a bonus prize!!! WoooHOOO!!!!!!

This first one I made for a friend from high school, he is currently in the hospital re-couping from Esophageal cancer. He had surgery and he doing great. They are currently asking for donations and I will slip a little something into the card. The image is from Dustin Pike and I colored it with my color pencils.

This second one if a tribute of sorts for all the teachers out there.
I sub every once in a while and you can't pay me enough to do that job full time. Bless their hearts!!!! You have 20 kids all pulling at you for 8 hrs. You have to repeat yourself ALL day. You have to remind them about everything.... Whheewwww its exhausting!!! Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!! The bag image is an oldie from Stampin' Up! I used to be demonstrator, but it got too expensive to try and keep up with the monthly quota. But I will still buy there products...
Lastly, but not least......LOL Is a card I made for my sweetie... It's a tribute to him giving me his last name.
I LOVE my new last name. ROOD; if you look up the definition you will see that it means crucifix or cross. That's why I chose the background paper. No, we aren't so-called "church" people but we both do have strong beliefs and are very spiritual. I have nothing against church at all...to each his own!!!!! I'll be back tomorrow; same time, same place, same channel!!!! Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

Happy.....

Not really sure why....maybe its the sun that we've had lately, but I have been on this 'high' and I like it. Full of energy, feel very rested when I awake in the morning..... woohoo!!!!

Here is another 'Happy' card for you.... I saw this on youtube the other day....a talented lady was making a 3-D rose out of the circle scallop punch. It looked easy and it was; and the affect is awesome. If you want to view this video click HERE. Kudos to Valita for an awesome embellie. The greenery is a MS punch and the ribbon slots is also a punch.

Anywho, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with this 'high' I've been on lately but I'm sure I can find something worthy to do or then again maybe just something FUN..... Bwahahahahahahahaha.

Put your lips together and blow....

This card couldn't be more appropriate for today. Seems like I'm always fixing someone's problems....
The image is from Viva Las Vegastamps.....they have some cute stuff. The lips is a punch I purchased at Tuesday Morning....cool huh???
LOL Here's the background story: We live in the city limits of Roopville, (pop. approx. 200) The house we live in is 60 yrs old and we have slowly been re-doing it. There is an old house next door to us that hasn't been occupied in almost two years, the owner's son moved in for a few months , but that's about it. This morning I let Booboo out to potty and I heard water flowing, of course I needed to investigate, Jeff might say I was being nosey.....LOL. Well, there is water flowing out the back door and wall, it looks like Niagara Falls. With the low temps and the house not having heat since before the deep freeze, the pipe must have finally thawed so the water was flowing. I called the owner of the house, the number they gave to call (in case I saw people over there or anything going on) was disconnected. So, I trapse out in the dark with a flashlight and find the meter and have to turn off the water with a pair of pliers myself...... ARGGHHH !!!! We have no city water authority, the city clerk handles it. But now we have no city clerk and we run off of two very large wells and I didn't want our wells to be depleted. I think I will call the mayor later today and see if there isnt some type of resolution regarding the city clerk. Heck, maybe I'll be city clerk one day, better yet MAYOR!!!! Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

This image is from Hambo stamps, I colored it with my color pencils and the 'salt' around the rim is MS glitter and the 'ice' is one of those lg. clear flat dots and I just cut it into cubes and stuck them on.

For me..... in general I'm a very happy person. Life's too short to go around with a sour puss plastered on your face. I have a wonderful hubby
, great kids and grand kids . We have everything we need and most things that we want. Hubby has a great job (well, other than having to travel all the time) but all in all a great job. I have the best friends evah!!!!!!!!! Wow, somebody took there "happy" pill today.......!!!!

Birds of a feather....

This card is dedicated to all my fellow scrappers... We all have an obsession, we're all enablers, and we are like "Birds of a feather"....Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!!! We love a good night of scrapping.......LOLI think we all need 12-step program ....Bwahahahahahahaha!!!
Here is the 12-step program for scrapbooking:
1. Rearrange all your scrapbooking supplies in your area so that there is no room to put anymore stuff in without having to buy new organization.
2. Always wear clothes with pockets when leaving home in case you should end up at a local scrapbook store or other craft store - this is so that you'll always have a place to keep your hands at all times - this ensures that you will not handle the pretty papers and play with all the fun tools. Might want to keep a washcloth in there too, to wipe up any drool that accumulates from your wishful thinking.
3. Never, ever, ever, obey the request of a sales lady to "Feel free to try out the different scrapbook tools!" Crops can be bad too. That's where some of my greatest, UNUSED tools stemmed from!
4. Never make eye contact with a sales lady. Never look directly at the papers.
5. Always take your spouse or a friend with you if you can't resist going to a local scrapbook store or craft outlet, they can remind you that you don't need anymore supplies!!
6. Never pick up or subscribe to a scrapbook trade magazine. This can be hazardous to your health, and the health of your family. They may look innocent, but the magazines are full of the newest supplies and they WILL call out to you! Before you know it, you will have all those products sitting there collecting dust!
7. Do not look at all your supplies before leaving the house as they will remind you that you don't have the latest and greatest trendy stuff!
8. Don't dress poorly in hopes that store owners won't trust your check or credit card, Scrapbooker's are typically honest people and it won't work! Many of us just don't dress that great every time we leave the house because we are mothers, wives and busy all the time! This is not a good method!
9. Do not rely on prayer alone to help as, God loves memories too. After all, He is the creator of many!
10. Promise yourself that you will look at every patterned paper before buying any. This may slow you down a bit. And make the decision a little harder!
11. Never, ever touch a computer and especially not one that connects to the Internet! There are all kinds of scrapbooking websites and online stores in there just waiting for you.
12. If all fails, run home immediately, and create a layout using what you already have!
If you don't follow these 12 steps carefully you are or will become an addict...... trust me I KNOW!!!! Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Until later, fellow addictees...........Gotta split...........TFL!!!!

Friends don't let friends CROP alone!!!

I had the best time last night. I went to my niece's house for the monthly scrapbooking crop. We all mesh sooooo well together. We laugh, crop, share stories, eat and generally have a GREAT time. Words to live by, "What happens at the crop....STAYS at the crop!" Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! I didn't get home until 3:00 a.m. this morning. If any of you guys are reading this, I love you all!!!! Below is one of the pages I worked on last night.
I have to show you what I received in the mail yesterday.... A GREAT friend that I met via stamping/online Stef aka Glitterbabe sent this beautiful card to the new hubs and I, check out her blog Glitterbabe Greetings. She even drew the image on the front, isn't she awesome... She is the sweetest and funniest lady, I would love to meet her one day; maybe we will get the chance. Thanks Stef!!!!! Love ya!!!!
Well, I'm gonna chill for a little while and get all my supplies in from the car and organize them back to where they go.... then I may finish some of the pages I worked on.

WWII is here.....

Yep, it's a full assault of the flu bug....I spent the better part of the day at Harlee's doctor's office. She is now on antibiotics and some Nasonex for her nose bleeds. Everytime she gets sick, she has a severe nose bleed....I mean there's not a few drops of blood it's an all out Niagra Falls... Last time there was a trail thru the house to the bathroom. Her daddy hasnt seen one of her nosebleeds yet, he's always working out of town, so I took pictures to show him....it felt like I was working a case for a CSI unit.......Bwahahahahahahahaha... The doctor says that the nose spray will help with that, we'll see!!!
Going to scrapbooking tonight at my niece's house so today I will show you a page I did recently of my daddy. He was in WWII, and he was over seas for almost 5 years. He told my brother that when he saw the Statue of Liberty from the ship he knew he was finally home and fell down to the ground and kissed it 'cause he didn't think that he would ever see American soil again. I still get teary eyed thinking about him and he has been gone for 32 years now. He died in an auto accident at work when I was 16 yrs. old. He was truly my hero!!!!
